About
Hello, I'm Ada
A writer in a river town, mostly on foot.
I write about the places within an hour's walk of my door. The river, mostly, and what lives along it; the lanes and their lamps; the house, and the small repairs that keep it standing.
For twelve years I edited other people's books at a small publisher. I left to write my own, which turned out to be slower and better. Notes from the Margin started in 2019 as a letter to eleven friends. It now goes to rather more people, and it is still a letter.
I draw everything you see here with a fountain pen, usually the evening after the walk. I'm not a good draughtswoman, but I'm a patient one.

Readings, talks and workshops
I read from the essays and the book, talk about writing the place you live in, and run a two-hour workshop on keeping a walking notebook. Book a short call to talk dates.
PreviewOnline booking isn't connected yet: this is a preview of the calendar. Until it is, write to me and I'll suggest times.
Questions
Can I use a drawing?
For something small and not for sale, almost always: write and ask. For anything printed or sold, I'll ask a fee.
Do you write for magazines?
Now and then, when the subject is something I would write about anyway. Send me the brief.
Will you read my manuscript?
I'm sorry, I can't any more; there are too many and I'd do none of them justice.
